A one-off screening test between the ages of 55 and 64 years could reduced colorectal cancer mortality by 43% in those screened and incidence by one third. These are findings of a long-term UK study reported in The Lancet. Participants in the study underwent an examination of the lower colon and rectum by flexible sigmoidoscopy, which uses a flexible scope - about the width of a pencil.
