The Centre has made remarkable progress since opening in 2005, having directly triggered or contributed to more than 38,000 news reports on science, medicine and engineering and informed more than 200 mainstream issues such as climate change, mobile phones and health, water resources, earthquakes, bushfires, stem cell research and cancer. The AusSMC has a growing database of Australian experts (currently over 3,000) and close to 1000 journalists who have proactively registered with the Centre and use its services on a regular basis.
