ONLINE MEDIA BRIEFING - Tue 1 Sept at 3pm AEST online

BRIEFING DETAILS:
DATE: Tue 1 September 2009
START TIME: 3pm AEST
DURATION: approx 45 min
VENUE: Online

The Federal Government will today release the first ever National Preventative Health Strategy – essentially three strategies at once that aim to reduce the huge real and potential burden of disease due to obesity, tobacco and the harmful use of alcohol.

Put together, smoking, obesity, and harmful use of alcohol, cost Australia’s health care system in the order of $6 billion per year, while lost productivity is estimated to be almost $13 billion.

The Strategy has been developed over the last 15 months by the Preventative Health Taskforce. This briefing will bring together the chairs of the three strands to discuss their findings.
